Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala
Rasulillah. As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu
Praise be to Allaah; we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
INTRODUCTION/PURPOSE OF WRITING BOOK ON ENEMY OF MANKIND
The main purpose of
writing this First Edition of this book is that each of us may ask within
himself; who is greatest enemy of mankind?
1. Why
I am created? Should I be grateful to my Creator or to Satan the cursed?
2. Should
I be a student that registers in the Institution of learning and school fees
are being fully paid but strive to fail and hate to pass examinations because
of Satan influence?
3. Should
I be an employee that will strive to get a job through all efforts but
instantly start praying to be dismissed from service because of Satan influence?
4. Should
I be a Muslim that believes in Allah and follow all commandments but continue
to pray to be thrown in to hell fire because of Satan?
5. Should
I be a Muslim that reads the Quran and acquire the basic knowledge but continue
to indulge in all major sins to be thrown in to hell fire because of Satan?
6. Should
I be a Muslim after knowing the truth that everything is created by Allah, and
everything has a determined or due measure, to follow negative commandments of
Devil to be thrown in to hell fire? Etc.
Based on little logic, I decided to draw some charts of Satan’s
imaginations on mankind under the influence of Devils which are only worldly
enjoyments and are deceptive. We should be ready to answer all our intentional
and unintentional actions done on this earth before Our Creator the Lord of the
Worlds, in the Hereafter.
We have ten (10) Chapters on this Book but split for ease of Dawah or
Nasiha.
Why does Shaytan have two names?
In the Qu'ran, Shaytan is mentioned as
Iblees and Shaytan. Why does he have more than one name, and what do they mean?
Neither
Iblis nor Shaytan are not the forenames of what we call Sahaytan, the jinn. His
name is indeed Hareth and he was called so until he was fired out of Heavens,
it is since then that he has several reputations: Shaytan, Iblis, Rajeem
and maybe some others[1].
First to know is generally (not
specific to Quran) that:
- Ibles is the Grand Shaytan, he is
a Jinn, and the first one of all Shaytans. He is the one who disobeyed
Allah's order to him to prostrate (يسجد) to Adam (PBUH), while
- Shaytan is every unbeliever Jinn
(i.e, Kafer كافر of Jinn), and so Ibles is one of
them.
Now it's argued whether Ibles is the
Father of Jinn (just like Adam is the father of Humans), or he is the father of
only Shaytans and not the whole Jinn, or he is the father of neither, I don't
have enough proofs.
Now that's for generally speaking, BUT
FOR Quran there is a specification. In fact in Quran, that rule doesn't
apply, as the word "Shaytan" is mentioned sometimes with the meaning
of Ibles, and some other times in the meaning of all Shaytans (i.e, Shaytan
Kind).
For example, in this Aya, the word الشيطان (Shaytan) means the
whole Shaytan Kind, as Ibrahim (PBUH) tells his father not to worship Shaytans
(written Satan in the translation):
O my father, do not worship Satan.
Indeed Satan has ever been, to the Most Merciful, disobedient. Surat Maryam - 44.
Whereas in this aya, the word (Shaytan) means Ibles himself, because he was mentioned before two Ayat (in this aya), so the word in the following Aya refers to Ibles himself (in fact this has an Arabic Language side, as well):
Whereas in this aya, the word (Shaytan) means Ibles himself, because he was mentioned before two Ayat (in this aya), so the word in the following Aya refers to Ibles himself (in fact this has an Arabic Language side, as well):
But Satan caused them to slip out of it
and removed them from that [condition] in which they had been. And We said,
"Go down, [all of you], as enemies to one another, and you will have upon
the earth a place of settlement and provision for a time." Surat Al-Baqarah -
36
So, we conclude that:
- Shaytan is a word that refers to
any unbeliever Jinn, i.e, to a kind of the Jinn.
- Ibles is a name of the first
Shaytan (who disobeyed Allah's order to him to prostrate to Adam), he
himself has only one (known) name, it's Ibles.
- In Quran, the word Shaytan sometimes
refers to all Shaytans, and some other times it refers to Ibles himself, it
depends on the context.
Iblees comes from the arabic word
balasa بَلَسَ
which means despair and iblees would literally mean one who causes despair.
Shaytan would be equivalent to satan which means one who obstructs, or opposes.
In the Quran when Allah says iblees its
definitely the devil, when Allah says shaytan it may refer to the devil, an
evil creature, whether it be human or jinn, or the shaytans minions.
Iblis literally means, "who
with no hope of hayr, who abandon hope from Allah's rahmat (mercy)."
It is given as a name to who didn't bow before Adam and being expelled from
Allah's rahmat. His name was originally Azazil.
Shaytan literally means "who is
away from Hakk." and as a concept it is general name for anything
which is away from correct way.
As a conclusion, Iblis is shaytan, but not every
shaytan is Iblis. Iblis is a proper name, while shaytan is a general
concept.
" O Ye who believe! Fear
Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam[2]."
Shaitan is aware
of what a person is thinking to himself, and he knows his inclinations and his
whims and desires, both good and bad, so he whispers to him accordingly.
Shaikh Ibn Baaz (may Allah have mercy upon him) was asked: "If someone intends to do something good, does the shaitan come to know and try to divert him from it?" He replied: “Every person has a devil and an angel with him, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: ‘There is no one who does not have a companion from among the jinn and a companion from among the angels.’ They asked: ‘Even you, O Messenger of Allah?’ He said: ‘Even me, but Allah helped me with him and he became Muslim (that is: 'and I am safe from him'), so he only enjoins me to do that which is good.’
And he (peace be upon him) told us that the shaitan dictates evils to man and calls him to evil, and he has some control over a person’s heart. And he can see, by Allah's will, what a person wants and intends to do of both good and bad deeds. The angel also has some control over his heart that makes him inclined toward good and calls him to good.
This control is something that Allah has enabled them to have, i.e., He has given some power to the companions from among the jinn and from among the angels; even the Prophet (peace be upon him) had a shaitan with him who was the companion from among the jinn as mentioned in the Hadith quoted above.
The point here is that every person has with him a companion from among the angels and a companion from among the devils. The believer suppresses his shaitan by obeying Allah and adhering to His religion; and he humiliates his shaitan until he becomes weak and is unable to prevent the believer from doing good or to make him fall into evil except that which Allah wills. But the sinner, through his sins and bad deeds helps his shaitan until he becomes strong enough to help him to follow falsehood and he encourages him to do so and he becomes strong enough to keep him from doing good.
"The believer has to fear Allah and strive to resist his shaitan by obeying Allah and His Messenger, and seeking refuge with Allah from the shaitan. And he should be keen to support his angel to obey Allah and His Messenger and to follow the commands of Allah." (Fataawa Al-Shaikh Ibn Baaz, 9/369).

There Is Nothing On Earth
That Is Concealed From Allah.
The life of
this world is nothing but a game and a diversion. The Hereafter is better for
those who guard against evil. So will you not use your intellect? (Holy Holy
Quran Surat al-An'am, 32)
Know that the life of this world
is merely a game and a diversion and ostentation and a cause of boasting among
yourselves and
trying to outdo one another in wealth and children: like the plant-growth after
rain which delights the cultivators, but then it withers and you see it turning yellow,
and then it becomes broken stubble. In the Hereafter there is terrible
punishment but also forgiveness from Allah and His good pleasure. The life of
this world is nothing but the enjoyment of delusion[3].
... Allah's promise is true. So
do not let the life of this world delude you and do not let the Deluder delude[4] you concerning Allah.
Satan’s Strategies on man
includes To Make You A Rejecter, To Commit Bid’ah, To
Commit Major Sins, Minor Sins and Wasting Time. Satan has Three Doors to invite mn to lose his Deen
through The Door Of Anger, The Door Of Desires and The
Door Of Negligence.
The knowledge of satan on man is his Actions And Numerous Deceptions (Ruses) through Usage of Demagoguery,
Keeping People Busy With Meaningless Things And Nonsense, Interfering In The
Nature Created By Allah.
Thus, Satan Makes People Worship Invalid Gods, Tries To
Prevent People From Prostrating to Allah, Leads People To Aberration Under The
Disguise Of Impartiality.
Satan Proceeds To his Target of man through Step By Step, Leading People
To Imitate Others, Frightens People, Does Not Let Man Confess His Mistakes,
Encourages People To Drink Alcohol And To Gamble. Finally Satan Makes People
Forget, Strives Against Prophets, Too and Deceives Scholars, Too and Leads
People To Wrong Conclusions By Acting Upon Some Truths.
By Following Footsteps Of Satan, you are
having False Hopes from Satan by Following him, through his Traps
(Tricks). The Activities Of Satan also is to Make Sins Seem Nice, Keep People
Busy With False Desires, by approaching you through Four Directions To Steal
Man’s Belief to Lead People To Fire.
Let’s ask
ourselves a brief Question.
Does the shaitan (satan) know what crosses our minds, which no one knows
except Allah, and thus whisper to us what is in accordance with our thoughts?
Answer. Evidence suggests that the shaitan is close to man. Safiyyah bint Huyayy (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The shaitan flows through man like blood.” (Al-Bukhari, 3281; and Muslim, 2175).
Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “They smell a good smell or a bad smell (meaning the angels, who smell a good smell when a person is thinking of a good deed). But the devils (Qarin) do not need that (smell) in order to know; rather they even know what is in the heart of the son of Adam, and they see and hear what he says to himself. Moreover, the devil has full control over man’s heart. When man remembers Allah, the satan withdraws, and when he neglects to remember Him, he whispers to him. He knows whether he is remembering Allah or is neglecting in remembering Him, and he knows the whims and desires of his heart and makes them appear attractive to him.
The closeness of the angels and the shaitan to the heart of the son of Adam is something that is confirmed in many reports, whether the person is a believer or a disbeliever.” (Majmoo Al-Fataawa, 5:508)

It
is reported that Ibrâhîm b. Adham (d162H) – Allâh have mercy on him – once
passed through the market of Basrah.
People gathered around him and asked:
People gathered around him and asked:
O
Abû Ishâq, Allâh the Exalted says in his Book. ‘Call on me, I will answer your
prayers’, but we have been calling on Him for a long time and He does not
answer our prayers.
[Ibrâhîm] replied,
“O people of Basrah, your hearts have died in respect to ten things:
[Ibrâhîm] replied,
“O people of Basrah, your hearts have died in respect to ten things:
1)
First, you know Allâh; but you do not give Him
His rights;
2)
Second, you have read Allâh’s Book; but you do
not act by it;
3)
Third, you claim to love Allâh’s Messenger –
Allâh’s (peace and blessings be upon him); yet you abandon his Sunnah;
4)
Fourth, you claim to be enemies to Shaytân;
but you conform to [his ways];
5)
Fifth, you say you love Paradise yet you do
not work for it;
6)
Sixth, you say you fear The Fire; yet you put
yourselves closer to it [by sinning];
7)
Seventh, you say death is true; but you do not
prepare for it;
8)
Eighth, you busy yourselves with the faults of
others; and disregard your own;
9)
Ninth, you consume the favors of your Lord;
but are not grateful for them; and
10)
Tenth, you bury your dead; but take no lesson
from them.”
1.3 satan’s FALSE HOPES to mislead mankind
They say, 'No one
will enter the Garden except for Jews and Christians.' Such is their vain hope.
Say, 'Produce your evidence if you are telling the truth.' (Holy Quran Chapter 2:111)
(Satan said,) 'I will lead them astray and
fill them with false hopes. I will command them and they will cut off cattle's
ears. I will command them and they will change Allah's creation.' Anyone who
takes Satan as his protector in place of Allah has clearly lost everything.
(Holy Quran Chapter 4:119)
He makes promises
to them and fills them with false hopes. But what Satan promises them is
nothing but delusion. (Holy Quran Chapter 4:120)
Leave them to eat
and enjoy themselves. Let false hope divert them. They will soon know. (Holy
Quran Chapter 15:3)
Those who have
turned back in their tracks after the guidance became clear to them, it was
Satan who talked them into it and filled them with false hopes. (Holy Quran
Chapter 47:25)
They will call
out to them, 'Were we not with you?' They will reply, 'Indeed you were. But you
made trouble for yourselves and hung back and doubted and false hopes deluded
you until Allah's command arrived. The Deluder deluded you about Allah.' (Holy
Quran Chapter 57:14)
1.4 MAN
FOLLOWING FOOTSTEPS OF SATAN
DESPITE QURANIC WARNINGS
Mankind! Eat what
is good and lawful on the earth. And do not follow in the footsteps of Satan.
He truly is an outright enemy to you. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:168)
You who believe!
Enter Islam totally. Do not follow in the footsteps of Satan. He is an outright
enemy to you. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:208)
Eat what Allah
has provided for you and do not follow in the footsteps of Satan. He is an
outright enemy to you. (Holy Quran Chapter 6:142)
You who believe!
Do not follow in the footsteps of Satan. Anyone who follows in Satan's
footsteps should know that he commands indecency and wrongdoing. Were it not
for Allah's favour to you and His mercy, not one of you would ever have been
purified. But Allah purifies whoever He wills. Allah is All-Hearing,
All-Knowing. (Holy Quran Chapter 24:21)
No, in fact they
say, 'We found our fathers following a religion and we are simply guided in
their footsteps.' (Holy Quran Chapter 43:22)
Similarly We
never sent any warner before you to any city without the affluent among them
saying, 'We found our fathers following a religion and we are simply following
in their footsteps.' (Holy Quran Chapter 43:23)
Allah knows best.
