Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah. As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu
Praise be to Allaah; we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Let us briefly establish and address who are Idolaters (Mushriqun) & Disbelievers (Kuffar). Earlier in Series One (1) we discussed briefly who Believers (Mu’minun) are and in Series Two (2) we deliberated Hypocrites (Munafiqun) And Deceitful in accordance to the Islamic concept for both male and female. Fellow brothers and sisters (Muslims)! Fear Allah as He should be feared and keep your duty to Him.

Messenger! Transmit what has been sent down to you from your Lord. If you do not do it you will not have transmitted His Message. Allah will protect you from people. Allah does not guide the people of the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 5:67)
1.0 Introduction
Indeed, Allaah made all of creation through His Power; He guides whomsoever He wills by His Grace, causes whomsoever He wills to go astray by His justice and writes all that is in Al-Lawh Al-Mahfooz (The Preserved Tablet).
He says: “He it is who created you, then some of you are disbelievers and some of you are believers.” (Holy Quran Chapter At-Taghaabun 64:2).
Allaah shows us the way to prosperity and the way to misery. He extols the pious and condemns the unbelievers and warns against their characteristics. He explains in His Great Book the unbelievers’ deeds, the falsity of their belief and their bad conduct. The Kaafir denies resurrection, does not believe in predestination, is impatient in difficulty and loses hope in the mercy of Allaah.
Allaah says: “Certainly, no one despairs of Allah’s mercy except the people who disbelieve.” (Holy Quran Chapter Yousuf 12:87).
The Kaafir lies when he speaks and he is arrogant and self-deluded.
Allaah says: “The disbelievers are in nothing but delusion.” (Holy Quran Chapter Al-Mulk 67:20).
He turns away from signs of Allaah, lessons and admonitions. His heart is so full of envy that it shows itself in his eyes. He is envious of the Muslims because of their blessings and wishes that they could be taken away from them.
Allaah says: “Neither those who disbelieve among the people of the scripture (Jews and Christians) nor the idolaters like that there should be sent down unto you any good from your Lord.” (Holy Quran Chapter Al-Baqarah 2:105).
He is so shamelessly envious that he would strive to mislead you so that you will be assembled with him in the Hell-Fire.
Allaah says: “They wish that you reject faith as they have rejected (faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another).” (Holy Quran Chapter An-Nisaa’ 4:89).
2.0 Characteristics of Kaffirs
The Kaafir plots against the Muslims by night and betrays them in the day. Enmity towards you is vividly shown in his face and his utterances. He bites his fingertips in severe anger against the Muslims and his inner-self is full of evil plans against them. He pretends to be trustworthy and good mannered while he is actually pursuing his own interests.
Allaah exposes them when he says: “Hatred has already appeared from their mouths but what their breasts conceal is far worse.” (Holy Quran Chapter Aal-Imran 3:118).
They hide their lies and treachery in apparent truthfulness and sincerity, just to please you with words of their mouths while their hearts rejects you. They argue with falsehood and conceal the truth. Their evil plots against the Muslims are great; but Allaah will render their plan fruitless, for, “the plots of disbelievers are nothing but error.”
Following the Kaafir is disgraceful while disobeying them is might.
Allaah says: “O Prophet! Keep your duty to Allaah and obey not the disbelievers and the hypocrites (i.e. do not follow their advice).” (Holy Quran Chapter Al-Ahzaab 33:1).
Their knowledge is limited to this world and yet Sheikhul Islam said, “All deeds and affairs of a disbeliever inevitably have a defect that prevents it from being completely beneficial to him. All his affairs are either false or defective.” As for the knowledge of the hereafter, the disbelievers are completely ignorant of it.
Allah says: “They know only the outside appearance of the life of the world (i.e. the matters of their livelihood, or irrigating, or reaping, or sowing, etc.) And they are heedless of the hereafter.” (Holy Quran Chapter Ar-Room 30:7).
He also says, “…But most of them behave ignorantly” (Holy Quran Chapter Al-An’aam 6:111).
3.0 Who Are Idolaters (Mushriqun) In the Holy Quran
Rather you will find them the people greediest for life, along with the idolaters. One of them would love to be allowed to live a thousand years. But being allowed to live would not save him from the punishment. Allah sees what they do. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:96)
Those of the People of the Book who disbelieve and the idolaters do not like anything good to be sent down to you from your Lord. But Allah selects for His mercy whomever He wills. Allah's favour is truly vast. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:105)
They say, 'Be Jews or Christians and you will be guided.' Say, 'Rather adopt the religion of Ibrahim, a man of natural pure belief. He was not one of the idolaters.' (Holy Quran Chapter 2:135)
Do not marry women of the idolaters until they believe. A slavegirl who is one of the believers is better for you than a woman of the idolaters, even though she may attract you. And do not marry men of the idolaters until they believe. A slave who is one of the believers is better for you than a man of the idolaters, even though he may attract you. Such people call you to the Fire whereas Allah calls you, with His permission, to the Garden and forgiveness. He makes His Signs clear to people so that hopefully they will pay heed. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:221)
Ibrahim was neither a Jew nor a Christian but a man of pure natural belief-a Muslim. He was not one of the idolaters. (Holy Quran Chapter 3:67)
Say, 'Allah speaks the truth, so follow the religion of Ibrahim, a man of pure natural belief. He was not one of the idolaters.' (Holy Quran Chapter 3:95)
You will be tested in your wealth and in yourselves and you will hear many abusive words from those given the Book before you and from those who are idolaters. But if you are steadfast and guard against evil, that is the most resolute course to take. (Holy Quran Chapter 3:186)
You will find that the people most hostile to those who believe are the Jews and the idolaters. You will find the people most affectionate to those who believe are those who say, 'We are Christians.' That is because some of them are priests and monks and because they are not arrogant. (Holy Quran Chapter 5:82)
Say: 'Am I to take anyone other than Allah as my protector, the Bringer into Being of the heavens and the earth, He Who feeds and is not fed?' Say: 'I am commanded to be the first of the Muslims,' and, 'Do not be among the idolaters.' (Holy Quran Chapter 6:14)
Then they will have no recourse except to say, 'By Allah, our Lord, We were not idolaters.' (Holy Quran Chapter 6:23)
(Ibrahim said,) 'I have turned my face to Him Who brought the heavens and earth into being, a pure natural believer. I am not one of the idolaters.' (Holy Quran Chapter 6:79)
Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord-there is no god but Him-and turn away from the idolaters. (Holy Quran Chapter 6:106)
Do not eat anything over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned. To do so is sheer deviance. The Satans inspire their friends to dispute with you. If you obeyed them you would then be idolaters. (Holy Quran Chapter 6:121)
In the same way their idols have made killing their children appear good to many of the idolaters, in order to destroy them and confuse them in their religion. If Allah had willed, they would not have done it; so abandon them and what they fabricate. (Holy Quran Chapter 6:137)
Say: 'My Lord has guided me to a straight path, a well-founded religion, the religion of Ibrahim, a man of pure natural belief. He was not one of the idolaters.' (Holy Quran Chapter 6:161)
An announcement to those idolaters you have a general treaty with that Allah and His Messenger are free of them. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:1)
A proclamation from Allah and His Messenger to mankind on the day of the greater pilgrimage: 'Allah is free of the idolaters, as is His Messenger. If you repent, it will be better for you. But if you turn your backs, know that you cannot thwart Allah.' Give those who disbelieve the news of a painful punishment-except those among the idolaters you have treaties with, who have not then broken their treaties with you in any way, nor granted assistance to anyone against you. Honour their treaties until their time runs out. Allah loves those who guard against evil. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:3-4)
Then, when the sacred months are over, kill the idolaters wherever you find them, and seize them and besiege them and lie in wait for them on every road. If they repent and perform prayer and give the alms, let them go on their way. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:5)
If any of the idolaters ask you for protection, give them protection until they have heard the words of Allah. Then convey them to a place where they are safe. That is because they are a people who do not know. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:6)
How could any of the idolaters possibly have a treaty with Allah and with His Messenger, except for those you made a treaty with at the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram)? As long as they are straight with you, be straight with them. Allah loves those who guard against evil. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:7)
It is not for the idolaters to maintain the mosques of Allah, bearing witness against themselves of their disbelief. They are the ones whose actions will come to nothing. They will be in the Fire timelessly, forever. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:17)
You who believe! The idolaters are unclean, so after this year they should not come near the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram). If you fear impoverishment, Allah will enrich you from His bounty if He wills. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:28)
It is He Who sent His Messenger with guidance and the Religion of Truth to exalt it over every other religion, even though the idolaters detest it. (Holy Quran Chapter Quran, 9:33)
There have been twelve months with Allah in the Book of Allah, from the day He first created the heavens and earth. Four of them are forbidden. That is the True Religion. So do not wrong one another during them. However, fight the idolaters totally just as they fight you totally, and know that Allah is with those who guard against evil. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:36)
It is not right for the Prophet and those who believe to ask forgiveness for the idolaters-even if they are close relatives-after it has become clear to them that they are the Companions of the Blazing Fire. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:113)
Turn your face towards the religion in pure natural faith, and on no account be among the idolaters. (Holy Quran Chapter 10:105)
Say: 'This is my way. I call to Allah with inner sight, I and all who follow me. Glory be to Allah! I am not one of the idolaters!' (Holy Quran Chapter 12:108)
Proclaim what you have been ordered to and turn away from the idolaters. (Holy Quran Chapter 15:94)
The idolaters say, 'If Allah had willed we would not have worshipped anything apart from Him, neither we nor our fathers, nor would we have forbidden anything without His say.' Those before them said the same. Are the Messengers responsible for anything but clear transmission? (Holy Quran Chapter 16:35)
Ibrahim was a community in himself, exemplary, obedient to Allah, a man of pure natural belief. He was not one of the idolaters. (Holy Quran Chapter 16:120)
Then We revealed to you: 'Follow the religion of Ibrahim, a man of pure natural belief. He was not one of the idolaters.' (Holy Quran Chapter 16:123)
As for those who believe and those who are Jews and the Sabaeans and the Christians, Magians and idolaters, Allah will distinguish between them on the Day of Rising. Allah is witness of all things. (Holy Quran Chapter 22:17)
A man who has fornicated may only marry a woman who has fornicated or a woman of the idolaters. A woman who has fornicated may only marry a man who has fornicated or a man of the idolaters. Doing such a thing is forbidden for the believers. (Holy Quran Chapter 24:3)
Do not let them debar you from Allah's Signs after they have been sent down to you. Call people to your Lord and on no account be one of the idolaters. (Holy Quran Chapter 28:87)
So set your face firmly towards the Religion, as a pure natural believer, Allah's natural pattern on which He made mankind. There is no changing Allah's creation. That is the true Religion-but most people do not know it-turning towards Him. Have fear of Him and perform prayer. Do not be among the idolaters: those who split up their religion, and form into sects, each faction exulting in what they have. (Holy Quran Chapter 30:30-32)
Say: 'Travel about the earth and see the final fate of those before. Most of them were idolaters.' (Holy Quran Chapter 30:42)
4.0 Resources of kaffirs
Their children and wealth are but sources of distress for them. They live in confusion and their only concern in this world is eating, drinking and lustful enjoyment and their sustenance is devoid of Barakah (divine blessing). They are never satisfied with little. The Prophet said, “The Kaafir eats too much but the Muslim is satisfied with little food in order to be able to worship. He preserves a third of his stomach for his food, a third for his drink, and a third for his breath. A believer’s food is blessed.” He also said, “The food of two persons suffices three and the food of three suffices four.” (Al-Bukhaaree).
Brothers in faith! It is as a result of the Kaafir’s distance from the light of guidance that they have different sects and severely differs with one another in their opinions.
Allaah says: “They are only in opposition. So Allaah will suffice you against them. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.” (Holy Quran Chapter Al-Baqarah 2:137).
Allaah also says: “We have put enmity and hatred amongst them till the Day of Resurrection.” (Holy Quran Chapter Al-Maa’idah 5:64).
Kaafirs are cowards in war and a Muslims can defeat them, though the odds are two to one.
Allaah says, “So if there are of you a hundred steadfast persons, they shall overcome two hundred, and if there are a thousand of you, they shall overcome two thousand with the leave of Allaah.” (Holy Quran Chapter Al-Anfaal 8:66).
They enjoin one another in miserliness and do not entertain guest.
Allaah says: “Those who are miserly and enjoin miserliness on other men and hide what Allaah has bestowed upon them of His bounties. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a disgraceful torment.” (Holy Quran Chapter An-Nisaa’ 4:37).
The Kaafir is a preventer of good things, eater of ill-gotten wealth, ungrateful over bounties of Allaah.
Allaah: “They recognise the Grace of Allaah, yet they deny it and most of them are disbelievers.” (Holy Quran Chapter An-Nahl 16:83).
He lives in ignorance, lustful desires and errors; he is unguided to means of uprightness; his heart, ears and eyes are all blocked from perceiving the truth, and Satan pushes him to commit sins. His preoccupation and concern is to satisfy his lust and whims, his deeds then become useless in this world and the next. His Lord does not love Him and tells that He is an enemy of the disbeliever. Whoever does a good or bad deed, Allaah will make the sign his deed manifest on him, as the Prophet said: “Whenever Allaah hates a slave, He calls Jibreel and says, ‘O Jibreel! I, indeed, hate so-and-so therefore you must also hate him. Then Jibreel will hate him and proclaim to the inhabitants of the heaven that Allaah hates so-and-so, therefore they too should hate him, then the inhabitants of the heaven will hate him, and his hatred will then be spread among the inhabitants of the earth.” (Al-Bukhaaree & Muslim).
5.0 Kaffirs are ejected by the faithful and dutiful creatures in the end of Time
Lifeless objects decry Kaafir disbelief and the Blessed Land will eject them in the End of Time. Stones and trees will say, “O Muslim! Here is a Kaafir!”
When the Antichrist appears, Madinah will shake three times and the disbelievers will be expelled out of the Prophet’s city.
Remoteness from Allaah causes psychological pain. Sins make one’s heart depressed and deny one of the pleasures of faith. The Kaafir is the worst of Allaah’s creatures.
He says: “They are the worst of creatures.” (Holy Quran Chapter Al-Bayyinah 98:6). As for their numbers, they are the majority of the inhabitants of the earth.
Allaah says: “But most of mankind believe not.” (Holy Quran Chapter Hood 11:17).
The Prophet said, ‘Allah said, “O Adam! Bring out the contingent of the hell-fire!” Adam said, “Who are the contingents of the hell-fire?” Allaah answered, “Of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety nine.” (Al-Bukhaaree) In another version, he says, “Of every hundred, ninety nine.”
When a Kaafir dies, the whole of humanity are relieved. The Prophet said, “When a believer dies, he gets rest from the mercy of Allaah from the toils and harms of this world, but when one of the unbelievers dies, mankind, the trees and animals are relieved.” (Al-Bukhaaree).
The Kaafir would wish to live for a thousand years but when the time of his death comes, he hates to die, and the angels smite his face and back to take his soul and when he is buried, his grave is narrowed so much that his ribs stick into one another. He will be beaten with an iron bar and he will make a cry so loud that all will hear it except man and the jinn. In a version of this Hadeeth, it was reported, “If that iron bar were struck against a rock, it would make it sand.” The Kaafir’s grave will be carpeted with fire and he will have a continuous torment. He will be resurrected for the reckoning with a blackened face. He will be dust-stained; covered with darkness and terrified. He will be raised up in front of all the creatures on his face. Anas bin Malik said, ‘I said, “O Messenger of Allaah! How will the Kaafir be raised up on his face?” He replied, “Is He Who made him, walk on his legs in the world not able to make him walk on his face on the Day of Resurrection?” (Al-Bukhaaree).
6.0 Who Are Disbelievers (Kuffar) In Islam?
In this section we will see types of disbelievers; their Characteristics; The situation of at the time of death; and in the grave; their situation in Hellfire; Warning against following the ways of disbelievers; imitating them and External imitation results in internal imitation (i.e. faith).
Or (their likeness is) that of a storm-cloud in the sky, full of darkness, thunder and lightning. They put their fingers in their ears against the thunderclaps, fearful of death. Allah encompasses the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:19)
If you do not do that-and you will not do it-then fear the Fire whose fuel is people and stones, made ready for the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:24)
We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam!' and they prostrated, with the exception of Diabolis. He refused and was arrogant and was one of the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:34)
When a Book does come to them from Allah, confirming what is with them-even though before that they were praying for victory over the disbelievers-yet when what they recognise does come to them, they reject it. Allah's curse is on the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:89)
What an evil thing they have sold themselves for in rejecting what Allah has sent down, outraged that Allah should send down His favour on whichever of His servants He wills. They have brought down anger upon anger on themselves. The disbelievers will have a humiliating punishment. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:90)
Anyone who is the enemy of Allah and of His angels, and of His Messengers and of Gabriel and Michael, should know that Allah is the enemy of the disbelievers.' (Holy Quran Chapter 2:98)
You who believe! Do not say, 'Listen to us,' say, 'Look at us,' and listen well. The disbelievers will have a painful punishment. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:104)
Those of the People of the Book who disbelieve and the idolaters do not like anything good to be sent down to you from your Lord. But Allah selects for His mercy whomever He wills. Allah's favour is truly vast. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:105)
Kill them wherever you come across them and expel them from where they expelled you. Corruption is worse than killing. Do not fight them in the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) until they fight you there. But if they do fight you, then kill them. That is how the disbelievers should be repaid. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:191)
They will ask you about the Sacred Month and fighting in it. Say, 'Fighting in it is a serious matter; but barring access to the Way of Allah and rejecting Him and barring access to the Sacred Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) and expelling its people from it are far more serious in the sight of Allah. Discord is worse than killing.' They will not stop fighting you until they make you revert from your religion, if they are able. As for any of you who revert from their religion and die disbeliever, their actions will come to nothing in this world and the hereafter. They are the Companions of the Fire, remaining in it timelessly, forever. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:217)
You who believe! Give away some of what We have provided for you before a Day arrives on which there is no trading, no close friendship and no intercession. It is the disbelievers who are the wrongdoers. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:254)
Say, 'Obey Allah and the Messenger.' Then if they turn away, Allah does not love the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 3:32)
Have fear of the Fire which has been prepared for the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 3:131)
All they said was, 'Our Lord, forgive us our wrong actions and any excesses we went to in what we did and make our feet firm and help us against these disbelieving people.' (Holy Quran Chapter 3:147)
As for those who are tight-fisted and direct others to be tight-fisted, and hide the bounty Allah has given them, We have prepared a humiliating punishment for those who disbelieve. (4:37)
Do those who take the disbelievers as protectors, rather than the believers, hope to find power and strength with them? Power and strength belong entirely to Allah. (Holy Quran Chapter 4:139)
It has been sent down to you in the Book that when you hear Allah's Signs being rejected and mocked at by people, you must not sit with them till they start talking of other things. If you do you are just the same as them. Allah will gather all the hypocrites and disbelievers into Hell. (Holy Quran Chapter 4:140)
Those who anticipate the worst for you say, 'Were we not with you?' whenever you gain a victory from Allah, but if the disbelievers have a success they say, 'Did we not have the upper hand over you and yet in spite of that keep the believers away from you?' Allah will judge between you on the Day of Rising. Allah will not give the disbelievers any way against the believers. (Holy Quran Chapter 4:141)
You who believe! Do not take the disbelievers as friends rather than the believers. Do you want to give Allah clear proof against you? (Holy Quran Chapter 4:144)
Such people are the true disbelievers. We have prepared a humiliating punishment for the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 4:151)
20) And because of their taking usury when they were forbidden to do it, and because of their consuming people's wealth by wrongful means, We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment. (Holy Quran Chapter 4:161)
We sent down the Torah containing guidance and light, and the Prophets who had submitted themselves gave judgement by it for the Jews-as did their scholars and their rabbis-by what they had been allowed to preserve of Allah's Book to which they were witnesses. Do not be afraid of people, be afraid of Me. And do not sell My Signs for a paltry price. Those who do not judge by what Allah has sent down, such people are disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 5:44)
You who believe! Do not take as friends any of those who who make a mockery and a game out of your religion among the ones who were given the Book before you or the disbelievers. Have fear of Allah if you are believers. (5:57)
Say: 'People of the Book! You have nothing to stand on until you implement the Torah and the Gospel and what has been sent down to you from your Lord.' What has been sent down to you from your Lord increases many of them in insolence and disbelief. So do not waste your grief on the people of the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 5:68)
Is someone who was dead and whom We brought to life, supplying him with a light by which to walk among people, the same as someone who is in utter darkness, unable to emerge from it? That is how what they were doing is made to seem attractive to the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 6:122)
Who could do greater wrong than someone who invents lies against Allah or denies His Signs? Such people's portion of the Book will catch up with them so that when Our messengers come to them to take them in death, saying, 'Where are those you called upon besides Allah?' they will say, 'They have forsaken us,' testifying against themselves that they were disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 7:37)
You who believe! When you encounter those who disbelieve advancing in massed ranks into battle, do not turn your backs on them. (Holy Quran Chapter 8:15)
That is your reward. Allah always confounds the schemes of the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 8:18)
Prophet! Spur on the believers to fight. If there are twenty of you who are steadfast, they will overcome two hundred; and if there are a hundred of you, they will overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they are people who do not understand. (Holy Quran Chapter 8:65)
They desire to extinguish Allah's Light with their mouths. But Allah refuses to do other than perfect His Light, even though the disbelievers detest it. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:32)
Deferring a sacred month is an increase in disbelief by which those who have disbelieved are led astray. One year they make it profane and another sacred to tally with the number Allah has made sacred. In that way they profane what Allah has made sacred. Their bad actions are made to seem good to them. Allah does not guide disbelieving people. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:37)
Allah has promised the men and women of the hypocrites and disbelievers the Fire of Hell, remaining in it timelessly, forever. It will suffice them. Allah has cursed them. They will have everlasting punishment. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:68)
Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and hypocrites and be harsh with them. Their shelter will be Hell. What an evil destination! (Holy Quran Chapter 9:73)
It was not for people of Madina, and the desert arabs around them, to remain behind the Messenger of Allah nor to prefer themselves to him. That is because no thirst or weariness or hunger will afflict them in the Way of Allah, nor will they take a single step to infuriate the disbelievers, nor secure any gain from the enemy, without a right action being written down for them because of it. Allah does not let the wage of the good-doers go to waste. (Holy Quran Chapter 9:120)
(People of Musa said, 'Our Lord,) rescue us, by Your mercy, from this disbelieving people!' (Holy Quran Chapter 10:86)
It sailed with them through mountainous waves, and Nuh called out to his son, who had kept himself apart, 'My son! Come on board with us. Do not stay with the disbelievers!' (Holy Quran Chapter 11:42)
(Yusuf's father said,) 'My sons! Seek news of Yusuf and his brother. Do not despair of solace from Allah. No one despairs of solace from Allah except for people who are disbelievers.' (Holy Quran Chapter 12:87)
Then on the Day of Rising He will disgrace them, and say, 'Where are My partner gods for whose sake you became so hostile?' Those given knowledge will say, 'Today there is disgrace and evil for the disbelievers.' (Holy Quran Chapter 16:27)
(We decreed for the tribe of Israel,) 'It may well be that your Lord will have mercy on you. But if you revert to what you did, We also will revert. We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers.' (Holy Quran Chapter 17:8)
Do those who disbelieve imagine that they can take My servants as protectors instead of Me? We have prepared Hell as hospitality for the disbelievers! (Holy Quran Chapter 18:102)
Do you not see that We send the Satans against those who disbelieve to goad them on? (Holy Quran Chapter 19:83)
So do not obey the disbelievers but use this to battle against them with all your might. (Holy Quran Chapter 25:52)
Yet they worship instead of Allah what can neither help nor harm them. The disbeliever is ever, against his Lord, an assistant (to Satan). (Holy Quran Chapter 25:55)
You did not expect to be given the Book. It is nothing but a mercy from your Lord. So do not lend support to the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 28:86)
Those who disbelieved will find that their disbelief was against themselves. Those who did right were making the way easy for themselves; so that He can repay with His bounty those who believed and did right actions. He certainly does not love the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 30:44-45)
Prophet! Have fear of Allah and do not obey the disbelievers and hypocrites. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. (Holy Quran Chapter 33:1)
... We made a binding covenant with them (the Prophets), so that He would be able to question the truthful about their truth; and He has prepared a painful punishment for the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 33:7-8)
Do not obey the disbelievers and hypocrites and disregard their abuse of you. Put your trust in Allah. Allah suffices as a Protector. (Holy Quran Chapter 33:48)
Allah has cursed the disbelievers and prepared a Searing Blaze for them. (Holy Quran Chapter 33:64)
It is He Who made you His representatives on the earth. So whoever disbelieves, his disbelief is against himself. In Allah's sight, the disbelief of the disbelievers only increases their loathsomeness; the disbelief of the disbelievers only increases their loss. (Holy Quran Chapter 35:39)
We did not teach him poetry nor would it be right for him. It is simply a reminder and a clear Qur'an so that you may warn those who are truly alive and so that the Word may be carried out against the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 36:69-70)
They are surprised that a warner should come to them from among themselves. The disbelievers say, 'This is a lying magician.' (Holy Quran Chapter 38:4)
So the angels prostrated, all of them together, except for Diabolis who was arrogant and was one of the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 38:73-74)
Who could do greater wrong than those who lie about Allah and deny the truth when it comes to them? Do the disbelievers not have a dwelling place in Hell? (Holy Quran Chapter 39:32)
'No, the fact is that My Signs came to you but you denied them and were arrogant and were one of the disbelievers.' (Holy Quran Chapter 39:59)
Those who disbelieve will be driven to Hell in companies and when they arrive there and its gates are opened its custodians will say to them, 'Did Messengers from yourselves not come to you, reciting your Lord's Signs to you and warning you of the meeting on this Day of yours?' They will say, 'Indeed they did, but the decree of punishment is justly carried out against the disbelievers.' (Holy Quran Chapter 39:71)
So your Lord's Words about those who disbelieve proved true, that they are indeed the Companions of the Fire. (Holy Quran Chapter 40:6)
So call upon Allah, making your religion sincerely His, even though the disbelievers detest it. (Holy Quran Chapter 40:14)
When he (Musa) brought them the truth from Us they said, 'Slaughter the sons of those who believe with him but let their women live.' The stratagems of the disbelievers are nothing but errors. (40:25)
They will ask, 'Did your Messengers not bring you the Clear Signs?' They will answer, 'Yes.' They will say, 'Then you call!' But the calling of the disbelievers only goes astray. (Holy Quran Chapter 40:50)
But when they saw Our violent force their faith was of no use to them. That is the pattern Allah has always followed with His servants. Then and there the disbelievers were lost. (Holy Quran Chapter 40:85)
But if We let him taste mercy from Us after he has suffered hardship, then he says, 'This is my due. I do not think that the Hour is going to come. And if am returned to my Lord, I will definitely find the best reward with Him.' But We will inform those who disbelieve of what they did and make them suffer a ruthless punishment. (Holy Quran Chapter 41:50)
He responds to those who believe and do right actions and gives them increase from His favour. But the disbelievers will have a harsh punishment. (Holy Quran Chapter 42:26)
Have they not travelled about the earth and seen the final fate of those before them? Allah destroyed them utterly. And those who disbelieve will suffer the same fate. (Holy Quran Chapter 47:10)
That is because Allah is the Protector of those who believe and because those who disbelieve have no protector. (Holy Quran Chapter 47:11)
Whoever does not believe in Allah and His Messenger-We have prepared a Blazing Fire for the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 48:13)
If those who disbelieve should fight you, they would turn their backs and then find no one to protect or help them. (Holy Quran Chapter 48:22)
Nonetheless they are amazed that a warner should have come to them from among themselves and those who disbelieve say, 'What an extraordinary thing!' (Holy Quran Chapter 50:2)
They will emerge from their graves with downcast eyes, like swarming locusts, necks outstretched, eyes transfixed, rushing headlong to the Summoner. The disbelievers will say, 'This is a pitiless day!' (Holy Quran Chapter 54:7-8)
Are your disbelievers better than those peoples'? Or have you been given exemption in the Books? (Holy Quran Chapter 54:43)
Anyone who cannot find the means must fast for two consecutive months before the two of them may touch one another again. And anyone who is unable to do that must feed sixty poor people. That is to affirm your faith in Allah and His Messenger. These are Allah's limits. The disbelievers will have a painful punishment. (Holy Quran Chapter 58:4)
71) Those who oppose Allah and His Messenger will be subdued and overcome as those before them were also subdued and overcome. We have sent down Clear Signs. The disbelievers will have a humiliating punishment. (Holy Quran Chapter 58:5)
You who believe! When women who believe come to you as emigrants, submit them to a test. Allah has best knowledge of their faith. If you know they are believers, do not return them to the disbelievers. They are not lawful for the disbelievers nor are the disbelievers lawful for them. Give the disbelievers whatever dowry they paid. And there is nothing wrong in your marrying them provided you pay them their due. Do not hold to any marriage ties with women who disbelieve. Ask for what you paid and let them ask for what they paid. That is Allah's judgement. Allah will judge between them. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. (Holy Quran Chapter 60:10)
If any of your wives rejoin the disbelievers, you should have compensation. So repay to those whose wives have gone the dowry they paid out. Have fear of Allah-Him in Whom you believe. (Holy Quran Chapter 60:11)
You who believe! Do not make friends of people with whom Allah is angry, who have despaired of the hereafter as the disbelievers have despaired of the inhabitants of the graves. (Holy Quran Chapter 60:13)
They desire to extinguish Allah's Light with their mouths but Allah will perfect His Light, though the disbelievers hate it. (Holy Quran Chapter 61:8)
It is He Who created you. Yet among you are those who disbelieve and those who believe. Allah sees what you do. (Holy Quran Chapter 64:2)
Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and hypocrites and be harsh with them. Their refuge is Hell. What an evil destination! (Holy Quran Chapter 66:9)
Who is there who could be a force for you, to come to your support, apart from the All-Merciful? The disbelievers are only living in delusion. (Holy Quran Chapter 67:20)
Say: 'What do you think? If Allah destroys me and those with me, or if He has mercy on us, who can shelter the disbelievers from a painful punishment?' (Holy Quran Chapter 67:28)
It (the Qur'an) is a cause of great distress to those who disbelieve. (Holy Quran Chapter 69:50)
It (the punishment) is for the disbelievers and cannot be averted. (Holy Quran Chapter 70:2)
Nuh said, 'My Lord! Do not leave a single one of the disbelievers on earth! If You leave any they will misguide Your servants and spawn nothing but more dissolute disbelievers.' (Holy Quran Chapter 71:26-27)
That Day will be a difficult day, not easy for the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 74:9-10)
We have only appointed angels as masters of the Fire and We have only specified their number as a trial for those who disbelieve; so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in their faith, and both those who were given the Book and the believers might have no doubt; and so that those with sickness in their hearts and the disbelievers might say, 'What did Allah intend by this example?' In this way Allah misguides those He wills and guides those He wills. No one knows the legions of your Lord but Him. This is nothing but a reminder to all human beings. (Holy Quran Chapter 74:31)
We have made ready for the disbelievers shackles and chains and a Searing Blaze. (Holy Quran Chapter 76:4)
We have warned you of an imminent punishment on the Day when a man will see what he has done, and the disbeliever will say, 'Oh, if only I were dust!' (Holy Quran Chapter 78:40)
That Day some faces will be dust-covered, overcast with gloom. Those are the dissolute disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 80:40-42)
You who believe! Do not nullify your charity by demands for gratitude or insulting words, like him who spends his wealth, showing off to people and not believing in Allah and the Last Day. His likeness is that of a smooth rock coated with soil, which, when heavy rain falls on it, is left stripped bare. They have no power over anything they have earned. Allah does not guide disbelieving people. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:264)
90 There was a sign for you in the two parties which met face to face, one party fighting in the Way of Allah and the other disbelievers. You saw them as twice their number with your own eyes. Allah reinforces with His help whoever He wills. There is instruction in that for people of insight. (Holy Quran Chapter 3:13)
7.0 Kaffirs are in Hell
He will be in chains on that day and the sinners will be chained together while they are thirsty, dumb, deaf, and blind. Their friends shall discuss them and shall also disown their friends. Their food shall be of Zaqqoom and their drink shall be of boiling scalding water. Another boiling water shall be poured over their heads and it will peel the skin off their bodies. While he will be burning in fire, his body will be magnified and his molar tooth will be greatly enlarged. The Prophet said, “A Kaafir’s molar (in the fire) will be as big as Mount Uhud and the thickness of his body will be as wide as the journey of three (days).” (Muslim).
In another version of this hadeeth, he said, “…what is in-between the two shoulders of a kafir will be as far as the journey of three days for a fast rider. That is an exact recompense, and your Lord is not all unjust to His slaves. These are the characteristics of disbelievers and their well-deserved recompense.
The Prophet said, “Hasten to do good deeds against impending trials that are like parts of seriously darkened night, when a man will be a believer in the morning and become a Kaafir in the evening and will a believer in the evening and become a Kaafir in the morning, bartering his religion for an insignificant worldly material.” (Ahmad).
8.0 Difference between kaffirs and Mumins (Believers)
Follow the path of the pious people and observe obligatory prayers in the mosques for whoever neglects it has joined a doomed group. The Prophet said, “The difference between us and them is Salaah. Whoever abandons it has disbelieved.”
Allah says: “Not equal are the dwellers of the fire and the dwellers of Paradise. It is the dweller of Paradise that will be successful.” (Holy Quran Chapter Al-Hashr 59:20).
Emulating a people in their outward dispositions necessitates emulating them in their inner characters. Emulating the first generation of this ummah who are the Sahaabah and at-Taabi’een increases one in intellect, religiosity and good conduct while emulating the non-Muslims in their outward characteristics leads to emulating them in their conducts and ugly deeds. It also makes one love them. Therefore differ from idolaters and disbelievers in their behaviour and opinions and beware of taking them as friends. You should hate them, disown them and their religion and be proud of your religion. Strive for their guidance and call them to Islaam[1].
9.0 Prayers Are Compulsory For The Believers Even While Fighting
When you are travelling in the land, there is nothing wrong in your shortening your prayer if you fear that those who disbelieve may harass you. The disbelievers are your clear-cut enemies. (Holy Quran Chapter 4:101)
ii.
When you are with them and leading them in prayer, a group of them should stand with you, keeping hold of their weapons. When they prostrate, the others should guard your backs. Then the other group who have not yet prayed should come and pray with you. They too should be careful and keep hold of their weapons. Those who disbelieve would like you to be negligent of your arms and equipment so that they can swoop down on you once and for all. There is nothing wrong, if you are bothered by rain or you are ill, in laying your weapons down; but take every precaution. Allah has prepared a humiliating punishment for the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 4:102)
10.0 Question and answer session:
What is meant by taking the kuffaar as friends? Ruling on mixing with the kuffaar[2]
In the Quraan, it says that we cannot take the Kuffaar as awliyaa, but what does that mean? I mean, to what degree? Can we do business with them still? If I'm at school, can we play basketball with them? Can we talk to them about basketball and stuff? Can we hang out with them as long as they keep their beliefs to themselves? The reason I ask is because someone I know does hang out with them in this way and it doesn't affect his beliefs, but I still tell him, "Why don't you hang out with the muslims instead?" He says that most or many of the Muslims drink and take drugs where they hang out and they have girlfriends and he's afraid that the sins of the Muslims will lure him, yet he's sure that the Kufr of the Kaafirs will not lure him because that's something that isn't attractive to him. So is hanging out with them, playing sports with them, and talking with them about sports considered as "taking them as awliyaa instead of the believers" keeping in mind that he is doing that for his own eemaan?.
Answer: Firstly: Allaah has forbidden the believers to take the kaafireen (disbelievers) as friends, and He has issued a stern warning against doing that.
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Awliyaa’ (friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Awliyaa’ of each other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Awliyaa’), then surely, he is one of them. Verily, Allaah guides not those people who are the Zaalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust)” [Holy Quran Chapter al-Maa’idah 5:51]
Shaykh al-Shanqeeti (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: In this verse Allaah tells us that whoever takes the Jews and Christians as friends is one of them because of his taking them as friends. Elsewhere Allaah states that taking them as friends incurs the wrath of Allaah and His eternal punishment, and that if the one who takes them as friends was a true believer he would not have taken them as friends. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “You see many of them taking the disbelievers as their Awliyaa’ (protectors and helpers). Evil indeed is that which their own selves have sent forward before them; for that (reason) Allaah’s Wrath fell upon them, and in torment they will abide.
And had they believed in Allaah, and in the Prophet (Muhammad) and in what has been revealed to him, never would they have taken them (the disbelievers) as Awliyaa’ (protectors and helpers); but many of them are the Faasiqoon (rebellious, disobedient to Allaah)” [Holy Quran Chapter al-Maa’idah 5:80-81]
Elsewhere Allaah forbids taking them as friends and explains the reason for that, as He says (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe! Take not as friends the people who incurred the Wrath of Allaah (i.e. the Jews). Surely, they have despaired of (receiving any good in) the Hereafter, just as the disbelievers have despaired of those (buried) in graves (that they will not be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection)”[ Holy Quran Chapter al-Mumtahanah 60:13]
In another verse Allaah explains that this is so long as they are not taken as friends because of fear or taqiyah (i.e., being friendly with them in order to avoid harm); if that is the case then the one who does that is excused. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Awliyaa’ (supporters, helpers) instead of the believers, and whoever does that, will never be helped by Allaah in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them”[ Holy Quran Chapter Aal ‘Imraan 3:28]
This verse explains all the verses quoted above which forbid taking the kaafirs as friends in general terms. What that refers to is in cases where one has a choice, but in cases of fear and taqiyah it is permissible to make friends with them, as much as is essential to protect oneself against their evil. That is subject to the condition that one’s faith should not be affected by that friendship and the one who is behaves in that manner out of necessity is not one who behaves in that manner out of choice.
It may be understood from the apparent meaning of these verses that the one who deliberately takes the kuffaar as friends by choice and because he likes them, is one of them. End quote.

One of the forms of making friends with the kaafirs which is forbidden is taking them as friends and companions, mixing with them and eating and playing with them.
In the answer to question[3] (No. 10342) we have quoted Shaykh Ibn Baaz as saying: Eating with a kaafir is not haraam if it is necessary to do so, or if that serves some shar’i interest. But they should not be taken as friends, so you should not eat with them for no shar’i reason or for no shar’i purpose. You should not sit and chat with them and laugh with them. But if there is a reason to do so, such as eating with a guest, or to invite them to Islam or to guide them to the truth, or for some other shar’i reason, then it is OK.
The fact that the food of the People of the Book is halaal for us does not mean that we may take them as friends and companions. It does not mean that we may eat and drink with them for no reason and for no shar’i purpose.
Shaykh Muhammad al-Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about the ruling on mixing with the kuffaar and treating them kindly hoping that they will become Muslim. He replied:
Undoubtedly the Muslim is obliged to hate the enemies of Allaah and to disavow them, because this is the way of the Messengers and their followers. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibraaheem (Abraham) and those with him, when they said to their people: ‘Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allaah, we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you, hostility and hatred for ever until you believe in Allaah Alone’”[ Holy Quran Chapter al-Mumtahanah 60:4]
“You (O Muhammad) will not find any people who believe in Allaah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allaah and His Messenger (Muhammad), even though they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Rooh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself”[ Holy Quran Chapter al-Mujaadilah 58:22]
Based on this, it is not permissible for a Muslim to feel any love in his heart towards the enemies of Allaah who are in fact his enemies too. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies (i.e. disbelievers and polytheists) as friends, showing affection towards them, while they have disbelieved in what has come to you of the truth”[al-Mumtahanah 60:1]
But if a Muslim treats them with kindness and gentleness in the hope that they will become Muslim and will believe, there is nothing wrong with that, because it comes under the heading of opening their hearts to Islam. But if he despairs of them becoming Muslim, then he should treat them accordingly[4].
Secondly: With regard to what this person says about not mixing with sinful Muslims for fear that he may be tempted by their sins, but the kufr of the kuffaar does not tempt him, the answer to that is:
As for not mixing with Muslims who commit sin, he is doing well thereby, if he is not able to advise them and forbid them to do evil, and he fears that he may fall into the same sins and think it is something good.
With regard to mixing with the kuffaar, the reason why mixing with the kuffaar is not allowed is not only the fear that one may fall into kufr, rather the main reason for this ruling is their enmity towards Allaah and His Messenger and the believers. Allaah has indicated this reason in the verse where He says (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies (i.e. disbelievers and polytheists) as friends, showing affection towards them, while they have disbelieved in what has come to you of the truth (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, this Qur’aan, and Muhammad), and have driven out the Messenger (Muhammad) and yourselves (from your homeland) because you believe in Allaah your Lord”[ Holy Quran Chapter al-Mumtahanah 60:1]
So how can it be appropriate for a Muslim to keep company with the enemy of Allaah and his enemy, and make friends with him?
How can he be certain that he will not start to think of their ways as good? Many Muslims have fallen into kufr and heresy and have apostatized from Islam because of keeping company with the kuffaar and living in their countries. Some of them have become Jews and some have become Christians, and some have embraced atheistic philosophies.
11.0 Conclusion
We ask Allaah to make us steadfast in following His religion of Islam.
Say: "Truly, my prayer and my service of sacrifice, my life and my death are (all) for Allah, the Cherisher of the Worlds: (Holy Quran Chapter 6 V 162)
"It is Allah who is my Lord and your Lord; then worship Him. This is a way that is straight." (Holy Quran Chapter 3 V 51)
Further, give much praise to your Lord for guiding you to the right path and ask for firmness in faith. Be truthful with Allaah, you will have your affair made easy for you and cast resentment and ill-will out of your heart and people will love you.
Allah does not impose on any self any more than it can stand. For it is what it has earned; against it, what it has brought upon itself. 'Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make a mistake! Our Lord, do not place on us a load like the one You placed on those before us! Our Lord, do not place on us a load we have not the strength to bear! And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy on us. You are our Master, so help us against the people of the disbelievers.' (Holy Quran Chapter 2:286)
Say: 'Disbelievers! I do not worship what you worship and you do not worship what I worship. Nor will I worship what you worship nor will you worship what I worship. You have your religion and I have my religion.' (Holy Quran Chapter 109:1-6)
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are fierce to the disbelievers, merciful to one another. You see them bowing and prostrating, seeking Allah's good favour and His pleasure. Their mark is on their faces, the traces of prostration. That is their likeness in the Torah. And their likeness in the Gospel is that of a seed which puts up a shoot and makes it strong so that it thickens and grows up straight upon its stalk, filling the sowers with delight-so that by them He may infuriate the disbelievers. Allah has promised those of them who believe and do right actions forgiveness and an immense reward. (Holy Quran Chapter 48:29)
But as for those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers, the curse of Allah is upon them and that of the angels and all mankind. (Holy Quran Chapter 2:161)
When they came out against Goliath and his troops, they said, 'Our Lord, pour down steadfastness upon us, and make our feet firm, and help us against this disbelieving people.' (Holy Quran Chapter 2:250)
The believers should not take disbelievers as friends rather than believers. Anyone who does that has nothing to do with Allah at all-unless it is because you are afraid of them. Allah advises you to be afraid of Him. Allah is the final destination. (Holy Quran Chapter 3:28)
As for those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers, the whole earth filled with gold would not be accepted from any of them if they were to offer it as a ransom. They will have a painful punishment. They will have no helpers. (Holy Quran Chapter 3:91)
You who believe! If any of you renounce your religion, Allah will bring forward a people whom He loves and who love Him, humble to the believers, fierce to the disbelievers, who strive in the Way of Allah and do not fear the blame of any censurer. That is the unbounded favour of Allah which He gives to whoever He wills. Allah is Boundless, All-Knowing. (Holy Quran Chapter 5:54)
So today those who believe are laughing at the disbelievers. (Holy Quran Chapter 83:34)
Have the disbelievers been rewarded for what they did? (Holy Quran Chapter 83:36)
So bear with the disbelievers-bear with them for a while. (Holy Quran Chapter 86:17)
This was so that Allah might punish the men and women of the Kuffar, unbelievers and hypocrites.
