Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah. As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu.
Praise be to Allaah; we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad (Sallalahu Alaihi WA Salam) is His slave and Messenger.
CHAPTER EIGHT
14.0 THE KA’BAH TO BE DESTROYED
One of the last signs of the Day of Resurrection is the destruction of the Ka'ba by Zul-Suwayqatayn. He is from Abyssinia (Ethiopia) and will destroy the Ka'ba in order to steal its treasure and Kiswah (Ka'ba's cover). The Ka'ba is a holy Masjid for Muslims, located at the center of the main mosque of Mecca, known as Masjid Al-Haram. It is the ancient shrine which was built by Abraham, and whose foundations were laid by Adam. The Destruction of the Ka'ba will occur after no faithful Muslim remains, after the rapture of Muslims: In the Tafsir (interpretation) of the Ayah
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فُتِحَتۡ يَأۡجُوجُ وَمَأۡجُوجُ وَهُم مِّن ڪُلِّ حَدَبٍ۬ يَنسِلُونَ (٩٦)
"Until the Gog and Magog are let through (their barrier)" (Holy Quran Chapter al-Anbiya 21:96).
It is reported by Ka'b Al-Ahbar that Zul-Suwayqatayn will first emerge at the time of Jesus, son of Mary. Jesus will lead an army of seven and eight hundred Muslim soldiers and March to fight Zul-Suwayqatayn. While they are marching towards Zul-Suwayqatayn, Allah will send a breeze from the direction of Yemen, which will take the soul of every faithful believer. Only the worst of people will be left, and they will begin to copulate like animals. Ka'b said: "At that time, the Hour (of Resurrection) will be very close." Why would Allah allow the most beloved place to Him be destroyed? What is the wisdom? (Consultant Sadaf Farooqi ref https://aboutislam.net/counseling/ask-about-islam/allah-allow-kabah-destroyed/)
COMMENTARY
The details of the destruction of the Holy Ka’bah at the hands of a bald, black-skinned Ethiopian man named “Dhul-Suwayqatayn”. This name literally translates to, “the one with thin shins”. It has been reported in Musnad Ahmad that he will destroy the Ka’bah by picking at it, stone by stone, with a spade and an axe.
In the Qur’an, in the chapter titled “Al-Feel”, Allah has mentioned how He dealt with the elephant-riding army that once attacked Makkah with the intention of destroying the Holy Ka’bah. Allah destroyed them by sending upon them huge flocks of birds that showered them with clay pelts, until they became like eaten straw– dead.
This is proof that Allah protected the Holy Ka’bah and prevented it from being destroyed, Himself, without any human intervention. This was because He had decreed for it to exist longer, and its time was not up yet. Indeed, Allah is All-Powerful to protect or destroy whatever He wills.
Allah says elsewhere in the Qur’an:
فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ (٢٥) كُلُّ مَنۡ عَلَيۡہَا فَانٍ۬ (٢٦)
{All that lives (on earth or in the heavens) is bound to pass away, but forever will abide your Sustainer’s Self, full of majesty and glory.} (Holy Quran Chapter 55:26-27)
The fact mentioned in the above verse is a very important point for all of us to remember: that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, which exists right now, either in this earth or in the heavens (i.e. all the universes and galactic systems), which will not perish before the Day of Judgment.
Every created thing, whether living or non-living, will perish, cease to exist, and turn to dust. This is what the verse of the Qur’an above clearly emphasizes, and it is a humbling fact that we all should try to remember.
Created things on earth include the Holy Ka’bah. It was first built at the command of Allah, and near the end of times, when the Hour is about to be established, it will get destroyed — also with the will of Allah, — just like everything else on earth.
As you mentioned in your question, near the time when the Hour will be established, Allah will send a breeze that will cause every living believer on earth, including Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), to die. The people who will then remain on earth, will be the worst of mankind.
None of them will perform salah (prayer), fast during Ramadan, or give any zakat (charity). None of them will perform Hajj or Umrah anymore. The Qur’an will then be lifted from the earth i.e. no one will remember even one verse of it, nor will any physical mus-haf, the book containing the written Qur’anic Arabic text, exist anymore.
Allah will then allow the bald Ethiopian man with “thin shins”, to destroy the Ka’bah. That is His decree of the destruction of everything on earth, which He has mentioned in the verse of the Qur’an above.
That when Allah created everything on earth, He did so for a specific purpose: to test mankind to see which one of them is the best in actions (Holy Qur’an Chapter 67:2).
The life of the heavens and this earth, as well as the existence of everything that Allah has created in it, was always decreed to be a temporary, meant to be a fleeting period of trial. Death and the end of it all was always preordained. The Ka’bah was no exception to this decree of Allah. It was a created thing; hence, it would also, one day, cease to exist.
Just because Allah will allow His beloved House — the object unifying the direction of Islamic worship — to perish at the hands of a disbeliever, does not in any way imply that Allah will not have the power to protect His own House.
It only implies that Allah decrees some of His creation to be killed, destroyed, or to cease to exist, at the hands of some other created objects/beings. It happens with His will & permission.
This grave reality and reminder of the death and destruction of everything on earth should actually serve as a wake-up call for every one among mankind to hasten to believe in Islam and do good deeds before their time, too, is up. And Allah knows best.
15.0 WILL THE QUR’AAN DISAPPEAR AT THE END OF TIME?
The Islamic Future Magazine from Saudia Arabia in editorial feature stated that one of the signs of the last days were; that the Quran would disappear. I have not heard this. And how could it be true why we have many many hafis of Qurans.
Praise be to Allaah.
There are a number of ahaadeeth which indicate that the Qur’aan will be taken away at the end of time. Among these ahaadeeth are the following:
From ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood, who said: “Something will come and take the Qur’aan one night and not one aayah will be left, either in the Mus-haf or in the heart of any person, but it will be taken away.” (Narrated by al-Daarimi with a saheeh isnaad, no. 3209)
Al-Daarimi narrated with a different saheeh isnaad (no. 3207) that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood said: “Recite the Qur’aan much before it is taken away.” They said, “These Mus-hafs will be taken away! What about that which is (memorized) in men’s hearts?” He said: “Something will come and take it one night, and in the morning they will wake up without it. They will forget the phrase ‘laa ilaaha ill-Allaah’ and they will start to recite the sayings and poetry of the Jaahiliyyah. That is when the Word will be fulfilled against them.”
The phrase ‘That is when the Word will be fulfilled against them’ is a reference to the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):
وَإِذَا وَقَعَ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ عَلَيۡہِمۡ أَخۡرَجۡنَا لَهُمۡ دَآبَّةً۬ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تُكَلِّمُهُمۡ أَنَّ ٱلنَّاسَ كَانُواْ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا لَا يُوقِنُونَ (٨٢)
“And when the Word (of torment) is fulfilled against them, We shall bring out from the earth a beast for them, to speak to them because mankind believed not with certainty in Our Ayaat (Verses of the Qur’aan and Prophet Muhammad)” [Holy Quran Chapter al-Naml 27:82].
Ibn Katheer said in his tafseer of this aayah:
This beast will emerge at the end of time when mankind becomes so corrupt that they neglect the commandments of Allaah and change the true religion. Allaah will bring forth for them a beast from the earth – it was said from Makkah, or from elsewhere – and it will speak to the people concerning that. Ibn ‘Abbaas, al-Hasan and al-Qutaadah said – and it was also narrated from ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib – (may Allaah be pleased with them all): it will speak to them, i.e., it will address them. ‘Ataa’ al-Khurasaani said – and it was narrated from ‘Ali and this was the view favourd by Ibn Jareer: it will speak to them and it will say to them, ‘mankind believed not with certainty in Our Ayaat’. There are some reservations about this interpretation, and Allaah knows best.
According to one report, Ibn ‘Abbaas said: the words tukallimuhum (to speak to them) means, it will wound them; according to another report he said: it will do both (i.e., speak to them and wound them). [The word Tukallim may mean either speak or wound. – Translator]. This is a good point with no contradictions, and Allaah knows best. (Tafseer al-Qur’aan al-‘Azeem, 3/375-378)
Many ahaadeeth and reports have been narrated about the beast, such as the following:
It was reported that Hudhayfah ibn Usayd al-Ghiffaari said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) saw us from a room whilst we were talking about the Hour. He said: “The Hour will not come until you see ten signs: the rising of the sun from the west; the smoke; the beast; the emergence of Ya’jooj and Ma’jooj; the appearance of ‘Eesaa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him); the Dajjaal (“antichrist”); three landslides – one in the west, one in the east and one in the Arabian Peninsula; and fire which will emerge from the direction of ‘Aden and will drive – or gather – the people, stopping with them whenever they rest overnight or during the siesta hour.”
(Narrated by Imaam Ahmed, no. 46 – his version is his; also by Muslim, no 2901; Abu Dawood, no. 4311; al-Tirmidhi, no. 2183 – he said it is hasan saheeh; al-Nasaa’i, no. 1138; Ibn Maajah, no. 4055).
It was reported from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“There are three things which, when they appear, it will not benefit anyone to believe if he did not believe before: the Dajjaal, the beast and the rising of the sun from the west – or from the place where it sets.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, no. 3072; he said it is a saheeh hasan hadeeth).
It was reported from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Hasten to do good deeds before six things come to pass: the rising of the sun from the place where it sets; the smoke; the Dajjaal; the beast; or personal calamities or general tribulations.”
(Narrated by Muslim, no. 2947; Ibn Maajah, no. 4056, and others). There are many ahaadeeth which speak of the beast which will emerge at the end of time, but it would take too long to quote them all here. And Allaah is the Source of strength.
Further evidence that the Qur’aan will be taken away at the end of time is to be found in the report narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Mu’jam al-Kabeer, no. 8698, according to which Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said:
“This Qur’aan will most certainly be taken away from amongst you.” He was asked: “O Abu ‘Abd al-Rahmaan, how will it be taken away when it is so deeply rooted in our hearts and is written in our mus-hafs?” He said: “Something will come to it at night, then there will be nothing left of it in people’s hearts or in the mus-haf, and the next morning the people will be like animals.” Then he recited the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):
وَلَٮِٕن شِئۡنَا لَنَذۡهَبَنَّ بِٱلَّذِىٓ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ بِهِۦ عَلَيۡنَا وَڪِيلاً (٨٦)
“And if We willed, We could surely, take away that which We have revealed to you (i.e. this Qur’aan). Then you would find no protector for you against Us in that respect” [Holy Quran Chapter al-Israa’ 17:86].
Ibn Hajar said in Fath al-Baari (13/16): its isnaad is saheeh but it is mawqoof. Al-Haythami said in Majma’ al-Zawaa’id, 7/329): its men are the men of saheeh, apart from Shaddaad ibn Ma’qil, who is thiqah. And it was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.
This hadeeth is to be regarded as marfoo’, because it deals with something which is not subject to opinion or ijtihaad.
Imaam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Majmoo’ al-Fataawaa (3/198): “At the end of time, something will come to it at night in the mus-hafs and in people’s hearts, then there will not be left one word of it in people’s hearts or one letter of it in the Mus-haf.”
Allaah revealed the Qur’aan as a guidance to mankind and He guaranteed to protect it. It is the eternal miracle of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and it will remain, and people of earlier and later generations will learn from it and be guided by it, but at the end of time, just before the Hour comes, Allaah will take the souls of the believers, and there will be no one left on earth except the most evil of people. There will be no prayer, no fasting, no Hajj and no charity (zakaah). Then there will be no point in the Ka’bah being there or in the Qur’aan remaining among mankind, so Allaah will decree that the Ka’bah be destroyed at the hands of a kaafir from Ethiopia. Al-Bukhaari narrated in his Saheeh, no. 1519 that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Ka’bah will be destroyed by Dhu’l-Suwayqatayn from Ethiopia.” And Allaah will take the Qur’aan away from the earth, and not one aayah of it will be left in the mus-hafs or in people’s hearts. Allaah will not permit His Book to remain on earth if it is not benefitting anyone and no one is acting in accordance with it. So this thing will come to pass.
This frightening event makes the sincere Muslim hasten to pay attention to the Book of Allaah, to learn it, memorize it, recite it and ponder its meanings, before the Book is taken away.
This is one of the tribulations that will happen at the end of time, concerning which our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Hasten to do good deeds before tribulations come like patches of dark night, when a man will wake up as a believer and by evening he will be a kaafir, or in the evening he will be a believer and by morning he will be a kaafir, selling his religion for some worldly gains.” (Narrated by Muslim, no. 169).
We ask Allaah to make us adhere firmly to His religion and to protect us from tribulations, both seen and unseen. (Islam Q&A, Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid).
CHAPTER 9
THE SUMMARY
Here are the major signs of Doomsday according to Quran and Hadith (record of the sayings of Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu Alaihi Wa salaam).
1. Mahdi will come down.
Prophet Muhammad (Sallalahu Alaihi Wa Salaam) said “One of my descendants created by Allah will come prior to the end of the world. His name will be same as mine and his father’s name will be same as my father’s name. The world will be full of oppression and tyranny before his visit, but in his time will be fairness. The angel from the cloud above his head will say, “This is Mahdi. Listen what he says”. He will be Caliph and give battles against different enemies. There were several pretenders to the role of Mahdi throughout history, but none of them was obeyed as narrated in hadith.
2. Dajjal (Antichrist in Christianity) will come.
Dajjal will come and say, “I am the God”. Anybody who believes or trusts him will be the infidel. Dajjal has only one eye. He will get adherents with his extraordinary abilities and richness and wealth. These temptations will be the real test for true believers. He will have a war with Jesus and he will be killed by Him.
3. Prophet Isa (Jesus) will come down from the heaven.
According to Quran Isa (Jesus) wasn’t killed by the Jews. They secretly tried to kill him, but Allah saved him and raised him to the heavens. Returning Jesus to the Earth from the sky is the certain indication of approaching of the Doomsday.
Prophet Jesus must accomplish three primary missions before the Doomsday.
• He will kill the Dajjal.
• He will rescue Muslims from the assaults of Yajuj and Majuj (evil creatures who will spread horror around). He will take them to the Mountain Tur.
• He will be caliph and magnify Islam.
4. Yajuj and Majuj (Gog and Magog)
Another one of the greater signs of the Doomsday which informs us about two barbarian tribes. According to Quran the Wall (barrier) will be broken down and Yajuj and Majuj will rush down from the hills.
History about the barrier is referred to Hadith. Zulgarnain was a fair and powerful king and lived at the same time with Prophet Ibrahim. He carried out different missions and conquered many countries. Once he travelled to the North. He arrived in the midst of two mountains and met there a nation. They complained him about barbarian tribes Yajuj and Majuj who lived behind the mountains. These tribes attacked, robbed and killed them. Then they returned back. This tribe asked Zulgarnain to protect them knowing about the power of him for a payment. Zulgarnain refused to take any wage and set an iron wall. Yajuj and Majuj couldn’t pass this barrier anymore till the approaching of doomsday.
5. The Smoke will appear
It is noted in the Quran ‘Wait for a day when smoke appears from the sky’. More stated in Hadith. “The Smoke will come into the world from the sky and will cover the all of the world for 40 days”. It will affect the Muslims like the chill, but for infidels, it will be very hard.
6. Dabbatul Ard- The Beast will come
His task is to make a distinction between believers and infidels. He will touch the believers with the handstick of Mousa. The face of the believer will illuminate and brighten. Then he will touch the unbelievers with the seal of Souleyman and their face will darken and blacken. There are different opinions about nature of the Beast. Some of the scholars consider it as an extraordinary animal, while others as a camel.
7. The sun will rise from the West.
According to hadith, the Doomsday will not happen till the Sun rises from the West. It is another major signs of Doomsday stated in Quran and Hadith. In accordance with the both resources, everyone will believe in Allah after this great and obvious evidence when they will see the rising of the Sun from West. But this faith will not bring them any benefits. Because of the doors of confession and penitence will be closed. This hadith openly expresses the borderline time for repentance.
8. Landslides
There will be three landslides in the East, in the West and in the Arabia. Earth will collapse and everything on it will sink down. Many people will die by these disasters. Prophet Muhammad (Sallalahu Alaihi Wa Salaam) said that when the residents of these regions will do immorality and evil behaviors at very high extents this sign emerges.
9. The fire will begin.
Almost last amongst the major signs of Doomsday. According to Hadith, the trumpet blow will be sounded, the dead will return to life. And there will be a huge fire in Yemen, the fire would cause the people gather to the meeting place (Mahshar Al Qiy’amah, The Gathering for Judgment).
10. The Kabah will be destroyed.
According to Islamic scholars, Prophet Muhammad (Sallalahu Alaihi Wa Salaam) said.” One Ethiopian will destroy Kabah. I see him at the moment breaking down stones of Kabah one by one. Allah will take Quran away from Earth as well as the hearts of people after the destruction of Kabah. Allah wouldn’t let Book (Quran) remain in the world if nobody is acting in accordance with it.”
